Ian Terry finds that a timely settlement of his civil claim gives him new treatment options

Ian TerryTuesday the 24th of September was a very significant day for me.  Over many months my legal team had pressed the defendants in my case for a settlement. On the 24th of September  they finally made an offer at the eleventh hour.  The most important outcome was that I received a guarantee of unlimited cover for my private medical expenses.  The cash settlement was about half what I had hoped for initially. But my solicitor, Hayley Hill from Irwin Mitchell advised me that a “blank cheque” for private medical treatment was more important than the extra cash.

By fortunate timing, the settlement of my claim preceded a meeting with my consultant, Dr Dulloo, a member of Prof. Fennell’s team at Leicester.  Tests and a stay in hospital had revealed that I had experienced a rare side-effect of my treatment – immunotherapy-induced myocarditis.  Dr Dulloo said that I could have no more immunotherapy, of any sort.  Fortunately, the newly acquired “blank cheque” opened up private treatment opportunities.

I’ve just had my second scan at 13 weeks after treatment.  The first at six weeks after treatment showed things were stable.  I’ll learn the new scan results soon.

In the meantime, thanks again for your help in getting me on the road to both DWP benefits and a civil action settlement.
