Introducing “Your Health Companion”

Catherine Fensom, Integration Director, Your Health Companion

My name is Catherine Fensom. I am a senior oncology nurse, with a wealth of experience delivering first-class cancer services. Having qualified as a nurse in 1997, I have held several different oncology roles working for both East Cheshire NHS Trust and The Christie Foundation NHS Trust. Through my time working within the health service, my focus and passion has always been to improve services for patients and to empower them to be involved in their care and treatment decisions.

I recently joined DaSH Global to ensure the digital integration of a new service for patients, Your Health Companion, into the delivery of NHS cancer services to improve patient care.

Your Health Companion…

…empowers patients with Mesothelioma to record their symptoms, side-effects, quality of life, experience of care and any expenses they incur. It enables you to keep a record in one place, much like a diary, so you are better equipped to monitor changes in your health and wellbeing. In turn you can then communicate these changes to your healthcare professionals. The cost diary in the app is especially useful, as it calculates the cost implications of your illness to help with any legal claim you may make.

My Role

I’m responsible for introducing the app to patients, helping them access it and ensuring that they get maximum benefit from using it. I’m also pivotal in supporting Cancer Nurse Specialists and healthcare professionals to embed the information the app provides into everyday care delivery, so that they gain useful insight into a patients experience to ensure better management of care.

Evidence from the real world

In addition, through patients ongoing use of the app, Your Health Companion captures real-world evidence that, used together with treatment data and clinical trials, will provide opportunities for dramatically improving research into new cancer medicines, treatments and NHS care services.

Recommended to you by other agencies

Mesothelioma UK and ourselves can see the benefits of this app. We believe it will help you and your clinicians to collect the information you need to manage your condition as effectively as possible. It can also assist with any legal claim you are in the process of making.
